Sunraysia Gang Show is the largest and longest running youth theatre production in the Sunraysia region, an event which gives over 150 people, the opportunity to gain valuable confidence and develop self esteem through the performing arts.
Back in the 1930’s a Scouting leader Ralph Reader, set about putting on a variety theatre show for the local scouting community in London as fundraiser for a new hall. The first shows were enthusiastic and it was soon realized this was no ordinary show, with typical scouting perseverance and some refining, there is now a Gang Show on stage every night of the year somewhere in the world.
Scouts Australia, in conjunction with the Guiding Association, aim to provide a platform where youth can enhance their talent and invoke enthusiasm within the culture of live theatre and all it’s disciplines
A fully produced local Scouting and Guiding activity in the Performing Arts, where young people are exposed to and trained in the art of live variety theatre. Sunraysia Gang Show began in 1977 performing at the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre. While Scouting has traditionally had hiking, sailing, camping and the like, this activity within the performing arts, provides a vehicle for young people to develop life leadership skills while being exposed and training in area such stagecraft, music, set construction, scenery, props, lighting and sound.
